Synopsis:
Created to celebrate the lives and creative
work of older regional artists who have made
a significant contribution to Memphis and
the art world, this compilation weaves
together a beautiful narrative from thirteen
in-depth interviews with painters,
photographers, and sculptors. Subjects include George Hunt,
Marjorie Liebman, Dolph Smith, Ernest
Withers, Billy Price Carroll, Larry Edwards,
Dick Knowles, Veda Reed, Murray Riss, Ted
Rust, Agnes Stark, Mahaffey White, and Steve Yee.

Joann Self
Selvidge is the founder and executive
director of True Story Pictures, a nonprofit
with a mission to document stories that
educate, inspire, and connect our
communities. Her first feature-length
documentary was THE WLOK STORY (2002), an
acclaimed film about the history of the
first African American owned radio station
in Tennessee. Since 2004, she has produced
and directed 17 life story films called THE
ARTS INTERVIEWS, which celebrate older
regional artists. Her current project is a
feature-length version of VOICES OF JERICHO,
a short doc that won Best Documentary at the
2007 Indie Memphis Film Festival. The piece
follows four individuals with mental illness
as they navigate their way out of the
criminal justice system.
