Synopsis: In 1947 Harold Sherman, an author, Broadway producer, and ESP advocate moved to Mountain View, Arkansas. He became a leading citizen, instrumental in the development of the Ozark Folk Center and Blanchard Springs Caverns. In 1958 he produced a pilot for a TV series, THE AMAZING ADVENTURES OF MY DOG SHEPPY. The pilot never made it to the air, due largely to the popularity of another dog, Lassie, and to the on-screen killing of a bobcat. The story involves a young girl who is saved by a beautiful white German Shepherd, with help from an equally beautiful female archer. The only public screening of the pilot was at the Melba Theater in Batesville on July 25, 1958; it returns to Batesville for this encore screening over 50 years later.

"It's a period piece. It gives us a visual look at the environs at that particular time, a time when a great deal of change was taking place in north central Arkansas. In a few years the Folk Center would open and Blanchard Springs. It was part of an attempt to lift up a very poor area of the state." --Tom Dillard, quoted in "Stone County bringing past TV dreams to life with Sheppy showing," Amy Widner, arkansasonline.com
