Film Description
|
12-year-old Laurie
is a reluctant passenger on a family outing with her
estranged, psychologically fragile mother, Liz, and her
baby sister, Dani. When the car breaks down en route to
a local carnival, the pressures of expensive car repairs
and disappointed daughters push Liz to a breaking point.
As Laurie struggles to keep the trip together, she
slowly realizes that Liz may not be capable of being a
mom to her and Dani again.

Filmmaker Information

Ann Husaini
grew up in Nashville, Tennessee. After graduating from
Emory University in Atlanta, Ann began her career in
production on local features and TV. Ann edited and
post-produced director Ruth Leitman’s feature
documentary ALMA, which follows the relationship between
a local country singer and her mentally ill mother.
Championed by documentarian Albert Maysles, the film won
the Hamptons Film Festival best documentary, screened at
numerous festivals in the US and Europe, and was
selected for the Whitney Biennial in 2000. In 2000 Ann
moved to New York and received a Dean’s Fellowship to
Columbia University. She co-edited the feature
documentary CARNIVAL ROOTS, which was selected for the
Whitney Biennial in 2006. She has directed seven short
films and is currently writing a feature screenplay,
SUMMER OF POLTERGEISTS.
