Synopsis: Carmen Herrera has been a pioneering abstract painter since the 1940s, but only received recognition in recent years. She turned 100 years old in 2015 and still paints every day. She has an upcoming solo show at the Whitney Museum this fall. Carmen is just one example of the many great artists whose accomplishments have been overlooked because of their gender, ethnicity, or social standing and whose lives demonstrate the power of artistic vision to sustain itself.
