celebrating a decade of film in the foothills
When organizers of the first Ozark Foothills FilmFest proposed such an event in the fall of 2001, we'll be honest, some folks were skeptical. After all, 90% of film festivals fail in their first five years, and most (maybe all) of those are in markets far bigger than Batesville, Arkansas. Ten years later, the FilmFest has become one of the most widely anticipated cultural events in Arkansas and our organization is nationally recognized as a model rural non-profit in terms of its contributions to the local economy, to the quality of life in Batesville and surrounding communities, and to the advancement of the media arts in the region.
The 10th Annual Ozark Foothills FilmFest continues what has become a tradition--presenting the best independently-produced film art from Arkansas and beyond--enhanced and informed by filmmaker Q&As, a day-long screenwriting workshop, a number of guest artist gatherings, and a not-to-be-missed screening of the recently restored version of Fritz Lang's silent sci-fi classic METROPOLIS, with live music accompaniment by the acclaimed Alloy Orchestra. We're not the biggest, in fact we may well be the smallest, but we're indisputably one of the best film festivals in the country. Come see why and help us celebrate a decade of film in the foothills.
